Wolfgang Puck WPMFP15 12-Cup Direct-Drive Food Processor with Storage Drawer Review

Wolfgang Puck WPMFP15 12-Cup Direct-Drive Food Processor with Storage Drawer
Average Reviews:

I purchased this 900 watt Wolfgang Puck 12 cup food processor from HSN and it is outstanding. I had to replace a Kitchenaid food processor which constantly leaked as a result of a design defect. This machine is not only more powerful (the Kitchenaid was only 700 watts) but the design is truly ingenious. The lid closes securely and has a rubber gasket to prevent leakage. The food bowl also sits securely on the base and there is no leakage when using the machine. The parts all fit superbly: the reversible blade, adjustable blade, metal blade, emulsion disk (which is used to emulsify eggs and other liquids - works great!), and best of all: all of the parts , including a handy spatula, fit within the machine, either inside the bowl or in its drawer on the base of the unit, so there is no separate box of parts to keep track of. As soon as I received my unit, I began to use it immediately for many tasks such as processing dough for a pie, make a salad dressing, chopping vegetables, all of which this machine did without any fuss or mess. There was no leakage of contents, food was processed quickly without fuss and all of the attachments are stored within the food processor and its drawer making this a great space-saver. I'm eager to purchase the separate mini bowl which is not yet available. The instruction book that comes with this unit is very easy to follow and I recommend reading it as this processor is a little different to assemble than the Kitchenaid. I highly recommend this purchase to anyone looking for a reasonable alternative to Cuisinart or Kitchenaid processors at a great price!

Equipped with a powerful direct-drive induction motor, this convenient food processor quickly and easily slices, shreds, chops, mixes, purees, and more, helping to reduce prep time in the kitchen. The unit's wide-mouth design and food pusher allows for adding food while continuously processing. In addition, its unique, spouted "continuous flow" lid makes it possible to process food directly into a separate container, bypassing the 12-cup work bowl completely. Use the machine to quickly blend up small or large batches of pesto, chop onions and green peppers for a veggie pizza, or shred cheese for omelets on a Sunday morning--the options are endless. A variety of stainless-steel accessories come included: a fine/medium reversible shredding disc, a chopping/mixing blade, a reversible grating/shaving disc, and a julienne disk. Other highlights include a simple push-button control panel, a pulse function, and a built-in storage drawer that helps keep everything organized. With its elegant die-cast housing, the food processor measures 13-4/5 by 10-4/5 by 17-4/5 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Breville BCS500XL 9.6 Volt Cordless Immersion Blender with Recharging Base Review

Breville BCS500XL 9.6 Volt Cordless Immersion Blender with Recharging Base
Average Reviews:

Not sure about the reviewers that think this heavy gizmo is powerful. I have been using a Braun corded immersion blender for over a year and it is far more powerful and cost $30 when I bought it new last year. Bought this Breville for the cordless convenience, but it stalls out often, even on full charge. The built in rechargeable batteries are only replaceable by sending it back to the manufacturer, and the cordless unit is much heavier than a corded unit so this probably won't be cheap when the time comes. As mentioned in other reviews, the power and speed switches are inconvenient and would probably not be recommended for anyone with arthritis or anyone lacking in manual dexterity. The "smoothie" attachment is made of cheap plastic, including the "blade" so if you like your smoothies with frozen fruit or ice, forget about using this attachment. For ice crushing you must use another attachment, but if you are a bodybuilder trying make a drink by mixing protein powders, supplement powders and ice cubes, you better get one of the many other immersions blenders on the market that sell for a third of the price, because this Breville just isn't powerful enough to do it without stalling unless you add more liquid than you probably care to drink. The cordless feature is nice, and for that it gets a star. It gets another for looking adequately attractive and for coming with all the attachments mentioned in the manual (i.e., nothing extra to buy). If you don't need the cordless feature, you might want to save your money and buy a more powerful, versatile version of this product for a fraction of the price.

Virtuoso Coffee Grinder Review

Virtuoso Coffee Grinder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Since I have only had the Virtuoso for three months I will not discuss the long-term quality. Because I use it primarily for press pot, drip and small espresso batches I was not looking to get a solid consumer grinder, like the more expensive Rancilio Rocky or Mazzer Mini.
Previously I have owned a Starbucks Barista (the Solis verson, not the newer Saeco Titan verson) and the Capresso Infinity 560 Black. The Barista had a long and happy life, and after performing the hack (see coffeegeek.com), made great coffee and pretty good espresso. The Capresso was excellent for drip & press coffee, but only adequate for espresso. I would happily recommend each of these for people that just want a pretty solid cup of Joe, and do not mind it being slightly heated in the process. The Capresso was still running solidly, so do not infer it died early (it cheerfully grinds my wife's flax seeds very well now), I just wanted something better for my espresso shots.
After briefly considering the Gaggia MDF I looked at the Virtuoso, mainly for three, important, reasons.
First I was very happy with my Solis/Starbucks grinder, it lasted for over 10 years of heavy use. The hack allowed it to make good espresso. Baratza has been involved with selling the Solis products, and are the designers of the Maestro and Maestro Plus grinder (yes, thats right they are THEIR machines, not Solis). After talking to a few of the locally operated coffee shops, invaluable advice, I was able to learn more about the company.
Second, many of the negative reviews were early in the introduction of the product. What I appreciated, and what the shop owners told me about, is the serious approach to resolving any issues the product has and updating the product itself. Each issue has been addressed, burr design, machine rpm, cleanliness, fineness settings, etc. Important to me was that the later reviews, specially by some of the talking heads, were far better than the earlier versions of the Virtuoso.
Third the current version of the product, it is an affordable ($200 in some cases slightly less) grinder with a professional burr, over 40 settings (it can be easily hacked to allow for finer or coarser setting- something I have not needed to do yet. That information is posted in the FAQ of the Baratza website), and lower rpm motor (very important if you do not wish to heat the ground beans, or use a heavy French Roast as I do). It is easy to clean with the supplied brush, but hand wash and rinse well, the washable parts. Absolutely do not wash the container in the dishwasher, unless you wish destroy the anti-static properties of the container, plus it isn't necessary.
After figuring out what settings work best for my three purposes, I am getting a coffee that is as good as I would get in even some of the better local establishments in Portland. My espresso is not quite as good, but then I do not have Mazzer's and a thousand dollar plus espresso machine. For my purposes the espresso is far better than I have made on my own in the past.
It may be only a perception, but it seems as though I am using fewer beans as I have in the past as well, important as coffee prices rise. This is a great grinder for its niche, one can get better, but you will have to pay more, and be seriously addicted to Barista quality espresso.

Melitta MEMB1 Mill & Brew Coffeemaker Review

Melitta MEMB1 Mill and Brew Coffeemaker

I researched a grind and brew coffee maker for 3 months before purchasing this one. I'm thrilled with it. I used to work at prominent kitchenware store and didn't hear good customer reviews about the Cusineart Grind and Brew and the Capresso.... The Melitta makes a great cup of coffee, it's easy to use, grinds the beans quickly and you get your choice of course to super fine. The only programing is easy as is the clean up...no hassle which was important to me. The only thing I have noticed is that you need to use more scoops of beans than specified. (I make 4 cups each morning and use about 3 scoops of beans for strong coffee)...

I searched all over my town for a decent food processor. Most were too big or too small. I saw the KitchenAid 7 cup Food Processor but it was "out of stock" at the Target I was at and they didn't know when it might come in. Went directly to Amazon.com and found it for the same price and free shipping. How could I lose? It is an excellent food processor and the ease of cleaning is a real plus. It's slightly heavy but I attribute that to a powerful motor. Works like a dream.

Nostalgia Retro Hot Air Popper Review

Nostalgia Retro Hot Air Popper
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Two stars because it's cute and when it works I love the popcorn. Wouldn't buy it again though (bought as a Christmas gift- THANKFULLY I DIDN'T GIVE IT TO ANYONE!). Poorly made. The bottom half of the door cracked and fell off the 3rd time I used it (seemingly for no reason other than heat???). Is constantly jamming as the first reviewer said. In my case it's because the lids get stuck and the pressure of the popping corn makes it stop (can you imagine popping popcorn inside a sealed tin can- you're getting the picture). Makes very little popcorn at a time but it's SMALL so that was to be expected. There is a similar popper sold here with different styling (red & yellow- more of a "carnival" style??) that I also ordered and ended up giving as the gift. It had gotten good reviews. The popping mechanism was the same but the quality of the case was better. I was suprised that they were made by the same company. I haven't heard yet how it worked out for them. This one won't last long but I've gotten addicted to it. I'll replace it with a comercial quality one (I found them when I ordered this one for it about $100 more if I remember right). Absolutely worth the upgrade if you're planning to use this more than once. By the way, the pre-measured pouches of popcorn from Wabash Farms (yum!!!) were suggested by Amazon to go with this popper- big mistake. This is a 2oz popper and they are for 6oz poppers. I had to pry the wedged popcorn out with a screwdriver!

Capresso MT500 10 Cup Electronic Coffeemaker Review

Capresso MT500 10 Cup Electronic Coffeemaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having been sorely disappointed with the Cuisinart Grind & Brew, I moved on to the Capresso MT500. I have not been disappointed.
Aside from being a superior coffee maker, the MT500 is a sleek, elegant appliance that looks great on any kitchen counter.
The keypad is simple and easy to use, and includes a digital clock for 24-hour programmability (a key must-have for me). The unit has a 3-5 cup small batch setting for fast and efficient brewing of smaller quantities (another must-have for me).
Perhaps most importantly, the unit brews very satisfactorily hot coffee, unlike the Grind & Brew, which I found luke warm (less than 170F). The thermal carafe does an excellent job of keeping unused coffee hot, particularly when you pre-heat it with hot water.
My only criticism would be that fill-level is inconveniently positioned and somewhat hard to read.
All in all, I'm very pleased with every aspect of the MT500.

DeLonghi DC514T 14-Cup Programmable Drip Coffeemaker Review

DeLonghi DC514T 14-Cup Programmable Drip Coffeemaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had my DeLonghi Esclusivo coffeemaker for exactly 3 months. It brewed the best tasting coffee I've ever had. It was my favorite coffee maker by far for the following reasons: Coffee is delicious -slow brewing permits a more robust coffee. Small footprint on my counter. Stylish design. VERY easy to program and use. Large opening through which to pour water. Charcoal filter to purify water. Automatic shut off. Caraffe has large opening for easy cleaning. NON-DRIP POURING!! I was in heaven with this coffeemaker and knew I'd found the perfect one. (I've had many in my lifetime.)
Unfortunately, two days ago, the plastic surrounding the hot plate began to melt. The vendor from whom I purchased it has already refunded my money and has asked me to return it. I will NOT purchase another one for fear of fire hazard. This coffeemaker would have received 10 stars from me had it not begun to melt itself to death. For this reason, I'm heartsick.....it WAS the perfect coffeemaker.

Brew up to 14 cups (70 ounces) of great-tasting coffee with this easy-to-use drip coffeemaker. The unit's showerhead design helps extract coffee's full natural flavor by allowing water to completely saturate all coffee grounds, while its aroma button activates a unique brewing process that enhances the flavor and aroma of coffee. To achieve this full-bodied flavor, the coffeemaker advances through several continuous cycles that release water into the filter basket in 30-second intervals. This special time-released process saturates grounds a little at a time to extract the best flavor and aroma from coffee. The coffeemaker also provides a pause-and-serve function, for pouring a cup midbrew, and a 24-hour programmable timer with two-hour automatic shut-off. Setting the timer allows for waking up to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee or for having coffee ready to serve with dessert. The include glass carafe offers measurement markings, a generous stay-cool handle, and a drip-free spout for graceful serving. Other highlights include simple push-button controls, a blue backlit display, a permanent gold-tone filter, advanced water filtration, and a convenient water-level indicator, as well as a non-stick warming plate, a freshness indicator, and cord storage to help keep countertops tidy. A measuring spoon comes included. The coffeemaker measures approximately 8-1/2 by 7-1/5 by 13-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Nespresso CitiZ D120 Automatic Espresso Maker and Milk Frother, Limousine Black With Nespresso Capsule holder, And White Mug's Review

Nespresso CitiZ D120 Automatic Espresso Maker and Milk Frother, Limousine Black With Nespresso Capsule holder, And White Mug's
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We started looking for a "portable" coffee/espresso machine about 6 months ago to double in our RV so we didn't have to lug our Capresso around. Even though we loved the style of the CitiZ we opted to try 3 less expensive pod machines which were immediately returned because either the machine leaked, the coffee wasn't hot enough or tasted AWFUL. We kept going back to specialty stores to recheck the CitiZ but he held out because of the price and I held out because I just wasn't comfortable with the non-recyclable semi-empty pods. We both were concerned about price fixing because the capsules are only available through Nespresso. Seems despite the cost he truly fell in love with it because he surprised me with one for Christmas! I was still struggling with the recycle issue up to the point when he gave me a cup of what the beautifully styled upscale machine had produced....OMG it was the best froth, foam, espresso, latte I have ever had and I've been to some swanky specialty shops in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland and Seattle. He purchased the wooden box that has 36 capsules in it and between that and the variety pack that came with ours, 6 adults were satiated with espressos, lattes and cappuccino's not to mention the great hot chocolate (just add chocolate milk or syrup with milk in frother) for the kids all weekend.
As for price fixing and delivery of the capsules; we haven't had a problem. I think there is a $6 shipping charge, and you do have to purchase a minimum of 5 sleeves (10 capsules in each sleeve) and delivery time is fast-two days! We order more sleeves so it cuts the cost of repeated shipping's. For the foamer/frother there are two magnetic pieces a small foam thing and a little whip for awesome foam. There are fill lines inside the foamer that make it easy to use. Add the capsule under the chrome lever and the capsule is punctured when you push the lever back in place. The buttons to the left and right of the lever can be programmed to 'auto fill' espresso & latte or his & hers, when your done lift the lever and the spent capsule drops into the reservoir, push a button to flush out the system, rinse out the foamer and turn off the machine. No they don't have tea or hot chocolate like the low line machines, if you want tea, just push the water button and add your own teabag. You do have to empty the used capsule reservoir after about 6-8 uses otherwise it will overflow with water that drains from the capsules. There is a little ledge for an espresso cup that lifts so you can put a regular size cup or use the espresso cup and just pour the contents into your travel/tall mug. As for saving money from Starbucks or Peets; the capsules may be 55cents/each BUT don't forget to take into consideration the increase expense in milk you will be going through! Seriously we love this machine so much we have gone from using 2gal milk/week to 5! NO LIE. I am addicted. I have not had one cup of regular coffee from our Capresso since I got this machine! You really have to use 2% milk or chocolate milk for Mocha's I tried the NF and 1% but it doesn't froth, the Soy/Almond milk froths a bit but tastes kinda burned. Although there is a water reservoir in the back of the machine that is very easy to access I do wish it had an additional water adapter like refrigerators do so you don't have to fill it up. The parts are easy to remove and clean, be careful not to use anything other than a soft moist clean cloth on the tower so as not to scratch it. And it does take a bit of added time to clean out the frother after use, at least rinsing between cups so as not to burn the next batch of milk. If you are looking for a real home espresso machine and want the ease of premeasured capsules Nespresso CitiZ is the way to go. It is well worth every dime!!! Don't like black-Kitchen Kaboodle and probably a couple other specialty shops (not Williams-Sonoma) have it in Fire Engine Red!Enjoy!!
March 7, 2011 Update: It's now 15 months since I rec'd Nespresso Citiz & I stand by my original review & if I've upgraded my previous 4 start to 5 stars. I have found that if NF milk is cold it will froth without problem just not as much as 2%. Thankfully I've cut down milk consumption. Cleaning the frother is a breeze. I have a very small rubber spatula that is dedicated to my frother, I want every bit of foam/milk in my cup & it's a non-stick surface NO METAL!. After the spent cartridge is released (the reservoir will hold about 10), I push a cup button & it rinses any left over coffee into the frother, important to prevent the machine from clogging-we've not had that issue, we have a hot water tap so I just rinse out frother. If I ever see built up milk residue in the frother I just leave a little hot water in and then rinse it out later. About 6months after we got the machine we did notice a build up of scorched milk in one spot of the frother I called Nespresso Cust Svc and they went above & beyond. At the time the frother for our machine was out of stock and expected to be for about a month. They would send a standby and as soon as the one for the machine was back in stock they would send it to us, all at no cost to us-warranty. We were to keep the defective one, and the standby. Within 2 days we rec'd the standby and 3 days after that we rec'd the correct one. I called to see if they wanted me to send the standby back (because I hadn't even opened it) and was kindly told to just keep it. WOW. No problem with frother since. Regarding the recycle issue I found that you can mail in spent capsules & they will recycle them. There have been no increases in cost of the capsules & I have started to place a larger order to minimize shipping costs. They keep your orders on file which is helpful. They come out with "special" holiday packs as well as new coffees. These are usually time-limited and sometimes are about 5 cents more per capsule than usual. I did wait to long to reorder a specialty coffee that I really liked & it was no longer available. We get reminders in the mail that it's time to use the cleaner which is very easy to do, not only do they give step by step instructions, we've gotten free packets of cleaner. I don't know if it's related to amount purchased or what. I would still recommend this machine. Go to their website to see the new designs of this machine because Black & Fire Engine Red (avail on Amazon too) are old school by todays designs! Would it be a bad thing to have more than one machine?

Electrolux White Assistent Stand Mixer 8 Qt. Review

Electrolux White Assistent Stand Mixer 8 Qt.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm prompted to write this after seeing another review that stated that this machine is only good for making bread but not for other mixing tasks. In fact, it will do everything any other stand mixer will do, and it will perform most tasks better than other stand mixers. I use it a couple of times a week to knead bread dough, at which it excels, but I've also made cakes, whipped egg whites, made cookies, and just about anything else you can imagine.
The thing is, as you can see from the picture of the machine, it is different from mixers most Americans are used to. There's a learning curve involved, so you must be prepared for that, or you'll be disappointed. I got the hang of it quickly, within a couple of weeks or so, but after a year I'm still refining my knowledge.
I should point out that Cook's Illustrated magazine, in their November 2005 issue, gave this machine a poor rating. I have to believe that they did not attempt to learn how to use it properly. I also have their top-rated mixer, the KitchenAid Professional 600, which I found very disappointing. It now sits in a basement closet after it stripped a gear.
If you make bread, especially if you make it frequently or in large quantities, chances are you'll grow to love this machine. For a single loaf of bread now and then, any good stand mixer will do, and you'll probably be happier.
If you don't make bread at all, a good sturdy hand mixer such as the Braun M880 Multimix would be something to consider. If you make bread, you can rest assured that the Electrolux will do that and anything else you need it to do.

Whip cream, crush berries, knead dough, mix batter, and more with what some call Sweden's greatest kitchen machine. It puts 450 watts to work, along with a variety of attachments to quickly process numerous foods. Its superior motor design automatically adjusts torque to the load and as a result strains less and is far less likely to "walk" across your counter too. The timer allows you to start the mixer, set a time, and move to a different task while the machine goes to work. The unique roller and scraper design produce smooth, silky, elastic dough quickly and easily, effectively mimicking hand kneading. As the stainless steel bowl rotates, the deeply fluted roller perform like "fingers" while the scraper acts as the palm of the hand, scraping and massaging in a rhythmic motion. The white stationary bowl can be used to beat up to 18 egg whites for a gorgeous meringue or to cream butter and sugar for baking. When this bowl is used the whisks drive from below via a center column in the bowl, and this arrangement permits unimpeded access to the top of the bowl, with no overhead motor drive to get in the way.

Bella Cucina Panini Press Review

Bella Cucina Panini Press

This is a pretty good panini press. It heats pretty evenly and I have never burned anything with it. It flattens pretty well except when I stuffed a sandwich with tomatoes and red peppers and then used focaccia bread that had a rounded crust. The insides kind of slid out and I had to manipulate it until it stayed put. The top portion pivots, but you have to use an oven mit to adjust it to the height of your sandwich since it's too hot to move with your bare hands. It has a non-stick coating and it's pretty easy to clean, unless you make oily, saucy or buttered sandwiches. I pretty much wipe it with wet, slightly soapy paper towels or a sponge but then I wipe again to make sure to get any soapy residue off (cannot submerge in water). The edge is lipped so crumbs and food particles have to be picked out. It's an attractive looking press as well.

Personally I wish I had purchased a Cuisinart. The built-in storage drawer is a great idea but the owners manual leaves something to be desired, The use directions are very limited but "Hey" they do include an eclectic recipe card collection of seven different uses/recipes, whoopee. There are a number of attachments, blades, etc but the way they lock or don't lock or how some of them attach and work is pretty sloppy, like the emulsifier egg whipper, it is loose on the spindle and when you hit the power it slams into a plastic stop which I can already see issues with broken plastic parts, hopefully there will be replacement parts in the near future because I am certain I will be in the market for them. I will say that the blender does work well but a good blender can be had for a lot less money. It was purchased for the mutiple attachments and functions and the hope to eliminate some of the electric gadgets now cluttering our counter tops and consolidate into one machine. So far I have not been impressed during usage.

Equipped with 550 watts of power, this multi-purpose machine functions as a food-processor, blender, and juicer thanks to three separate attachments that all fit onto one motor base. Make hors d'oeuvres one minute then blend up margaritas for friends the next--simply twist and turn to remove the bowl, then pop on the blending jar. Or connect the direct-drive citrus press to serve fresh-squeezed orange juice right into a glass. The three-in-one appliance chops, slices, shreds, mixes, blends, juices, emulsifies, and even makes dough. Its polycarbonate food-processor bowl offers a generous 12-cup capacity and a lid that comes with a dual-feed tube for accommodating both small- and large-size foods. Accessories include a durable stainless-steel chopping/mixing blade, stainless-steel slicing and shredding discs for fine and coarse options, a dough hook that kneads dough to perfection, and an emulsifying disc that quickly whips cream and eggs. The 40-ounce polycarbonate blender jar provides an easy-grip handle and a secure-fitting lid. Set the blending speed to low or high, or choose pulse for exceptional control. Other highlights include a built-in storage drawer for keeping accessories easily accessible, cord storage for tidy countertops, and dishwasher-safe parts for quick cleanup. A spatula and seven Emeril recipes are also included. The food processor measures 23 by 15-1/2 by 20-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

VillaWare V5100 Classic Ice Cream & Gelato Maker, Electric Review

I've read all the reviews and will give you some real concrete reasons not to buy this. I didn't expect this product to do all of the work for me and I understand the reasoning behind some of the directions, such as cooling the mixture before pouring it into the freezing bowl (the bowl will thaw out if you don't!!!!!!!!)I received this and a Cuisinart ice cream maker as gifts at the same time. I decided to keep the VillaWare since I Knew they made industrial machines. I made three batches in my VillaWare, one ice cream, one non-dairy "ice cream" and one sorbet. I just kept thinking "Is this really how it should look?". I was following all of the directions (which aren't as big of a hassle as some would make them out to be!) and I ended up with mildly frozen slush which I had to put in the freezer to make it even remotely firm enough to eat. So, I broke out the Cuisinart that I was going to return and made the exact same sorbet recipe that I had made the previous day. Good thing I did, The Cuisinart batch was more frozen after 5 minutes than the VillaWare after 20 minutes. It produced a nice sorbet that was still soft but firm enough to eat right out of the freezing bowl. These machines operate under the exact same concept so from what I could tell the problem is this; The Villaware bowl doesn't seem to be quite as cold and the paddle that is supposed to scrape the frozen mixture from the side of the bowl isn't close enough to the bowl to scrape enough off to freeze the whole batch. The paddle on the Cuisinart sits right against the side of the bowl and allows the entire batch to freeze and be scraped off and mixed in.
I'll be returning the VillaWare now
Save yourself some time and hassle and buy a Cuisinart

Now I've only had this a week and so far I've had great results. I realize that it's a rebuilt machine, but I'm not grinding everyday. So for me the cost was perfect. And what I had it do has worked great. I'm very pleased so far. If I was using this everyday and pushing hundreds of pounds of meat thru the thing, It might be a different story, but for home user that makes sausage once a month or it gets used one a week I think it's great for the cost.

Waring Professional Kitchen Blender Review

Waring Professional Kitchen Blender

My Grandmother had a Waring Blendor. My Mother had a Waring Blendor. Why did I have to BUY one instead of "borrowing" one of theirs? Because they gave them away to get "lighter", i.e., cheap, plastic blenders, back in the early eighties. Big mistake. My grandmother died before she had to replace hers, but my mother is on her third cheap blender now. I expect my Waring Blendor to last the rest of my life. Fortunately, I was able to get my grandmother's Waring Blendor Cookbook from the forties. The current model still has the powerful motor, heavy glass container, super-duper cord and top-quality switch that my grandmother's had, sixty-odd years ago.
I also picked up one at Goodwill to have an extra pitcher to make two kinds of frozen drinks when I have a party. It is about forty years old but still works great, and it was obviously used quite a bit. (I only wish I had found it before I bought a new one!) The container still fits the base on the current model.
Makes fruit juice like a juicer, makes the best milk shakes, daquiries, gazpacho; it can even whip cream for dessert or froth milk for fancy coffee drinks! You can make a thick, creamy milkshake with milk, a frozen banana, a couple of ice cubes, and a little chocolate powder. You can even pre-chill the container in the freezer to make sorbet.
The secret difference: this Blendor creates a tornado in the center of the container, ensuring that everything gets evenly mixed. According to my Waring Blendor Cookbook, this is because of the unique four-leaf clover shape of the container, the shape of the no-rust stainless blades, and the high-powered motor.
You can use a wooden spoon through the hole in the top to make sure ice cubes get properly mixed if you find that to be a problem. (If you add ice cubes one or two at a time to the container with liquid already in blending on high, you will have the smoothest frozen beverage you have ever had with NO leftover ice chunks.)
The easiest way to clean it is to fill it 1/4 to 1/3 full of water, add ONE drop of dishwashing detergent, PUT THE LID ON, blend, shake and rinse.
Sure, it is a little loud (brings back memories of my childhood!) and if you drop the glass container on your foot, you'll be sorry, for your foot, because the container probably will never break. Notice that none of the Waring Blendor's detractors suggest an alternative.
If it isn't in the MOMA collection of Twentieth Century Industrial Design, it should be.
Buy a Waring Blendor and you'll never have to buy another blender. And neither will your children.
