(More customer reviews)I have enjoyed using the Weston Frenchy Fry Cutter. However a somewhat green large potatoe can cause the cutter blades to bend under the pressure required to push the potatoe through the mechanism. I wish you could just purchase the cutter blades for replacement as needed.

Horrible with tomatoes; it doesn't cut through the peel well at all and left my counter soaked with juice. Worked well on apples. You have to cut the pieces small enough to fit under the blade, and by then you might as well keep cutting it with the knife. I bought it to save time during "taco night" but found it to get in the way more than anything and ended up tossing it aside while I chopped the rest by hand. If you only want it for potatos and onions then it's worth it. Other than that, don't waste your time or money.

This week, I used this product to prepare the following:
Sun: Pizza toppings (olives, mushrooms, peppers, onions)
Mon: Soup (celery, onions, carrots)
Tue: Salsa (tomatoes, onions, peppers)
Tue: Spanish rice ( onions, celery, peppers, tomatoes)
Wed: Pad thai (broccoli, peppers, onions)
Thur: Stuffed peppers (onions, zucchini, peppers, mushrooms)
Everyday: Salad (apples, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, hardboiled egg)
Fri: Apple cake (apples)
Sat: Oatmeal (apples)
The chopper is a little more work to clean than a knife, but MUCH faster and still easy to clean with the included cleaning comb. (don't lose it) Cleaning is little more than rinsing usually. I run it through the dishwasher every few days.
If you don't need to prep a lot of ingredients like I listed or you don't really care if your items are minced/ diced/ sliced into identical shapes, then you don't need this. However, if you do a lot of chopping/ mincing/ slicing and you like it when your finished pieces are all identical (I do!), then this chopper can not be beat. It is very durable but requires a fairly strong push. My children can't push through the same items that I can, but if I take out half the items, then they too enjoy seeing the neatly chopped pieces. The Zyliss Easy Chop can chop and mince foods into the smallest of pieces with ease. The more you press, the smaller the pieces. Onions can be minced so finely that they are nearly undetectable by sight in sauces but still add desired flavor. And, onion odors are contained! The new design, however, means that I can no longer use the Easy Chop on my cutting board as I did with the older model. All foods must be inserted in the Smart Base before chopping. The rubber bottom on the Smart Base does help prevent slipping and reduces noise but I question how long it will last with repeated washings in the dishwasher. Only time will tell.
