KitchenAid KFPM773CA Architect Series 12-Cup Wide-Mouth Food Processor, Candy Apple Red Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)Once again, Cooks Illustrated pointed me toward this kitchen appliance. They did not misguide me. This is a slightly different model than they recommend but I wanted something a little more colorful.
Pros
+ Very powerful and fast. This thing slices an entire potato in less time than it takes to say "potato". I put one in the shoot and was prepared to stand there for a few minutes as I did with my old Cuisinart but before I could pull my finger from the button I was done.
+ Beautiful. I really love the color on this unit. It's a lovely deep shade of red that adds a nice splash of vibrancy to the counter. It's also a nice change from the chrome finish on my Cuisinart that showed every fingerprint or sponge mark.
+ Quiet. For its size and the power I would have assumed that it would be louder. It's not at all. Granted, it's a food processor so silence is not one of its virtues, but it is much quieter than my Cuisinart that was half its size.
+ Easy to clean. Everything comes apart easily and there aren't too many nooks and crannies for food to paste itself into.
Cons
+ Shallow feed tube. The widest part of the feed tube needs to come down pretty low. This means that potatoes need to be cut in half and pieces of cabbage, et cetera will need to be trimmed down a bit. If you are using the narrower tubes, this is less of an issue because the locking mechanism is already engaged.
+ Multiple bowls are nice but don't expect perfection. If you are shredding something and only that one thing, go ahead and use the full size bowl. The 10 cup bowl will keep food from getting all over the 12-cup portion, but if you are using one of the shredding discs, bits and pieces are likely to end up on the rim and make you want to clean the 12-cup bowl anyway. However, if you are doing a quick chop, the 4 and 10 do a great job of keeping everything inside and not dirtying the larger bowl(s).
+ Liquids. You've read it in other reviews I am sure. The center part of the bowls is rather shallow so if you have more than a few cups of pure liquid, it can become a bit of a mess. This also happened on my older Cuisinart so I've always just taken it for granted that I can't put too much liquid in my food processor. However, if this is a big issue for you be aware of the limitation.
+ Storage bin for parts. Eh. This is more of a kinda-con. It wouldn't stop be from buying it but they could certainly do a better job of designing the box that holds all your discs and blades. It is cumbersome and everything interlocks and stacks on top of other things. To get something out you have to pull too many other things out too. You'll probably find yourself storing oft used parts somewhere else.
Summary, buy it. It looks great and performs like a dream. It does an amazing job of slicing, shredding, chopping and the pizza dough that comes out of this thing is almost easier than dialing the phone to order out.

Like having a food-prep assistant at your service, this versatile food processor can handle almost any kitchen task--from chopping, slicing, and dicing to mixing, mincing, emulsifying, and more. It supplies three bowl sizes: a 12-cup work bowl for large quantities, a 10-cup chef's bowl that fits inside the work bowl (keeping the work bowl clean for the next task), and a 4-cup mini bowl (with a stainless-steel mini blade) that fits inside the large work bowl for small chopping and mixing jobs. Best of all, its work-bowl cover features three nesting food pushers for variable feed-tube options, and its Ultra Wide Mouth feed tube accommodates large items--like apples, zucchinis, cucumbers, and potatoes--with minimum sectioning or slicing needed. The appliance also provides two removable blades and four discs: a stainless-steel multi-purpose blade, a dough blade for mixing and kneading yeast dough, a fine 2 mm slicing disc, a medium 4 mm slicing disc, a medium 4 mm shredding disc, and a French-fry cutting disc. Additional tools consists of an egg whip that can whip cream and egg whites for mousses and meringues, and a citrus press, which consists of a strainer basket, a two-piece cone, and a lever arm (use the removable outer cone for larger items like grapefruit and the inner cone for lemons and limes). A user manual and a spatula/cleaning tool are also included, as well as a chef's accessory case that keeps all the blades, discs, and accessories protected and neatly contained. When finished, the unit's on/off/pulse control pad and base can be wiped down with a damp cloth and all removable parts clean up easily by hand or in the dishwasher. The food processor measures approximately 10-1/2 by 8-1/5 by 16 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.
