(More customer reviews)Upon receiving the package, the front ring nut wasn't machined properly and it even had a hole in the side; looks like a poor cast job. I called customer service and got a replacement. It also seems to fit better too.
Okay, now onto using it. It grinds stuff fairly well, and there won't be any complaints here. However, after using it, I washed it, dried all of the components, reassembled it and put it back in the box for storage.
The next time I used it, I noticed rust along all of the non-tinned parts. This includes the crank handle, the knife, the plate, the clamp screw, the thumbscrew. They should have made this from stainless steel instead of tin plating.
No big deal, I just re-washed it and coated it with vegetable oil. Now, after having used it a few times, the tin plating has chipped off the plates, the auger and grinder body where they meet when spinning; along the shaft as well as at the ends.
I think it's too late to return this now, and probably too much hassle. I would not recommend that anyone purchase this item. It looks like cheap overseas manufacturing with no quality control.

(More customer reviews)Well, I first ordered a cheap ... 250Watt meat grinder from Harbor Freight. It had a plastic worm gear, didn't work well at all, so it sits on my shelf. Then I got a hand operated meat grinder, and that turned out to be quite a lot of work. I like to grind my own burger and was still looking for a good meat grinder. I did own the Bosch mixer and noticed they made a meat grinder attachment (I bought the mixer after I bought my first two grinders). I have the 450 watt mixer. I figured I would try the meat grinder. I got the grinder and it was all metal, except for the tray on top and the push tube. Well, I diced my meat and got ready to grind some burger (I just don't trust supermarket stuff - too many recalls!). WOW! was I impressed -- this thing grinds like a demon! perfect hamburger. And, it ground up the meat as quickly as I could get it down the tube too...this is the one that I will keep and use for my burger grinding. The other two grinders that I own are going to go to Goodwill as a donation. Money well spent...

(More customer reviews)Were it not for the plastic coupling which attaches the grinding unit to the metal motor housing, I would give this item 4+ stars, but it is certain that this screw coupling, which must be used each time the grinder is washed, will fail before any other part of the grinder.
Everything else is satisfactory and it does a good job of grinding at 3 different degrees from course to very fine. The motor is more than powerful enough and makes easy work of very tough cuts. The sausage-stuffing tube works as advertised and is a good plus.

Norpro Meat Grinder, Mincer, and Pasta Maker Review

In the past I've owned the metal grinders that you have to clamp to a table and the electric kind with big motors that take up most of the space on the kitchen counter. They were so clumsy and a pain to clean that I seldom used either one. The electric one failed recently grinding peanuts!! and the old metal manual one got left behind in the last move so I decided to try this Nor-Pro despite it being made partly of plastic.
I was pleasantly surprised at how well it works. You do have to assemble the blades correctly. My first project was meatballs -- it ground the meat(buffalo stew meat in this case), the onions, a little garlic, mint stems and leaves, and the dry bread all very nicely into the square bowl which is included with the grinder. I grind my own meat to avoid the fat and "parts" from supermarket hamburger. The coarse grind is just right for tacos or wonton filling. Cleanup was easy - I put the pieces in the square bowl, added some hot water and a squirt of detergent and it was all clean in a few minutes and ready to use for the next meal. The extra pieces fit into a small plastic ziplock bag along with the basic instructions so they are not likely to get separated or lost. The rectangular bowl is attractive enough and the right size to take to table to serve sushi or gyoza.
The plastic is nice sturdy plastic like that in Lego toys. You do need to have a smooth countertop for the suction to work to stabilize the base(it doesn't work on my butcher-block table). It looks nice sitting on the counter so there it stays and gets used a lot. I only use my blender for smoothies nowadays. Nuts and beans and all sorts of other foods get ground in this little grinder.
One needs to make sure the pasta dough is not too moist... it takes a little practice.
The vegetables and cooked meats typically used for sandwich salads grind very nicely - even celery. So it is great when preparing lunches for brown bag or picnics. It also does a nice job of grinding garlic for garlic bread and/or salad dressing... saves my hands from smelling like garlic forever.
I'm left-handed and it is still easy for me to use.

VillaWare V5265-05 Power Meat Grinder Review

(More customer reviews)While the VillaWare 5265-05 has an acceptable appearance and acceptable accessories, a serious deficiency is the plastic auger. Many competitive units have metal augers which are far more durable. After grinding partially frozen fish, shrimp, spinach and meat, the auger was seriously deformed and was unusable. This was after less than 2 hours use. I have tried to get replacement parts but the internet site seems to be hard to find. In the newer models, the plastic auger has been replaced with a metal auger. This is a MUST. I'm hoping that Villaware will replace the defective plastic auger as a warranty items since their replacement with a metal auger is an implicit acknowledgement that the original auger was not up to the job. With a metal auger, I would rate the unit 4-5 stars since other components are quite good. Chuck Jensen

(More customer reviews)I bought this grinder to replace a similar one I had. This one grinds nicely and the set up is easy. I like the rubber pads that are included to protect the table. The main reason I purchased this is because it is dishwasher safe. I have used it several times over the last couple months, and it is holding up well. The only problem I have had is that the screw that holds the handle on looks like it is rusting. It has a metal gear which was getting pretty tight after a couple uses, but oiling it loosened it right up. The gear appears to be permanently in place which I hope won't become a problem with cleaning, but at least it won't end up in the disposal like the plastic one in the grinder I had before.

KitchenAid FGA Food Grinder Attachment for Stand Mixers Review

(More customer reviews)Given all the concerns about e-coli and mad cow, we decided last year to start grinding our own beef and lamb. This grinder does the job perfectly. We grind right into the short round Ziplock boxes (about a hamburger's worth), which go into the basement freezer, and then we turn out the frozen "hockey pucks" onto a plate to defrost in the microwave, or right into the pot for bolognese sauce or sloppy joes. ("Honey, would you bring me up a couple of hockey pucks for dinner?)
Assembly is easy and cleanup is easy (put a slice of bread through after the meat to make it even easier, or grind up an onion if you're making meatloaf anyway). The knife and both plates store inside the screw cap, so I don't worry about losing them (though KitchenAid sells replacements, as does goodmans-dot-net). The grinder even comes with a handy wrench-thingy to help take it apart if it tightens up.
The knife and plates are not stainless (which wouldn't hold an edge), so you do have to dry them off right after washing, but I put everything, including the wooden stomper, right in the dishwasher, and after more than a year nothing has had a problem.
[...] - this isn't an industrial tool! You can't set the mixer speed above three or four when grinding (less if the meat is gristly), and you've got to cut up the meat small enough to fit in the feed tube (the instructions say one-inch cubes, but long strips work too). Treat this right and it will return the favor.
About the only thing that would make this more perfect is a cylindrical brush to clean out the horizontal and vertical shafts, since the dishwasher spray can't really completely reach both, and the horizontal shaft has a screw thread that tends to catch crud (Right now I'm using a folded sponge, and the abovementioned bread slice).

And what I had it do has worked great. I'm very pleased so far. If I was using this everyday and pushing hundreds of pounds of meat thru the thing, It might be a different story, but for home user that makes sausage once a month or it gets used one a week I think it's great for the cost.

(More customer reviews)I noticed some negative customer reviews for this item; its due to lack of food experience. This machine works very well, however, you do have to compensate for the fact that it's a home machine and it has a small feeding tube. You cannot put your average sized 1 inch/1 inch cube into the feeding tube. Yes, it will fit, but no it wont do a good job. Think about it, the big industrial machines take cubes that size. You also cannot run the machine without a steady flow of meat or have it running on empty. One of the reviews said that the machine burned out on the first try. Probably an overexageration but these machines will burn out if you run it on empty of do not keep a steady flow going through the feeding tube.
I have been using a hand grinder for several months and although it made my arms look good, the job was really really tough and a lot of waste...due to the huge auger. This machine was a blessing; just be reasonable, and calm about using it, and the job will come out perfectly. Happy grinding and cheers to any and all who are out there honing and preseving the craft.

(More customer reviews)I'm glad I got this instead of a full size blender. It fits easily on the counter, holds a solid amount. I have mostly been making smoothies and shakes.
It's volume is no louder than any other, and it's convenience and cleanup is great.
The only possible negative I can say is that because the mixer has a graduated start, it doesn't have a super powerful "burst" mode like most blenders. However, it does get through ice very well with a subtle pulse in the blender speed as it goes.

Cuisinart SM-MG Large Meat-Grinder Attachment for Cuisinart Stand Mixer, White Review

(More customer reviews)People shouldn't give an item two stars just because of pricing compared to Kitchenaid. That's not helpful to anyone. I pulled the trigger on this attachment when Amazon had it for $107 shipped. Yes it's a little pricey, but compared to the Kitchenaid grinder for around $60, here's what I can see as the differences for $$ spent:
- It looks like the SM-MG tray appears to be a little larger than the
KA. (You can order a larger tray at add'l expense with the KA).
- The sausage making attachments are included with the Cuisi. (Again
these are not included, but can be ordered separately for the KA).
- The whole main body of the SM-MG Cuisi is cast aluminum or some other
metal, (whereas the KA body looks to be mostly plastic, and appears
smaller).
- The SM-MG attachment gives you three sizes of metal grinding wheels,
whereas the KA I believe gives you only two sizes.
- The SM-MG attachment, just like the Cuisi mixer itelf, has a three-
year warranty. (I believe the KA mixer, and I am assuming the
attachments, only have a one-year warranty).
I hope I have helped to compare apples to apples here. I know that I sound like a Cuisinart "fanboy," but after weighing all of the pros and cons before purchasing a stand mixer for the first time, (and valuing my dollars spent), I went with the Cuisinart, and I have not been disappointed. (Believe me, I really wanted to buy American here, and KA makes a fine product. If they would up their warranty to three years, I wouldn't hesitate to go with Kitchenaid).
You won't be grinding meat for any commercial applications with this unit. It is rather slow, but does the job. (Grinding 5 pounds of meat for sausage took awhile - a good while. I used the directions to put the mixer on speed "5". It was my first time using the attachment, so I didn't think of maybe cranking it up to "6" or so. I'll have to experiment with that. After all, the SM-MG attaches to the "slow" gear outlet).
I hope this review was at least somewhat helpful.
