(More customer reviews)My first mandoline was the Bron which is visually the most serious/macho/cool of the bunch, but its shortcomings were unacceptable - the slicing blade is one-piece stainless, and can't hold a sharp edge; the julienne blades are not sharp and can't be sharpened; and the safety carriage is designed to not go past the cutting edge. I sold it.
I now have a Matfer (the all-stainless model) and it has a 2-piece slicing blade: the cutting edge is high-carbon steel (which can be sharpened and hold its edge) welded to a stainless part. The julienne blades are very sharp (altho can't be resharpened). The safety -gadget thing works well, but can't be used for waffle cuts. I use the Matfer only for waffle cuts and if I have large quantities of slicing. If you want french fry size potatoes or are slicing celeriac, you're better off with a sharp knife. The disadvantage of this machine is that you can't adjust the slicing blade's uniformity of thickness - my slices are thicker on one side (the Bron had more adjustment leeway).
The machine I use the most is the Benriner - the slicing blade is very sharp and is sharpenable. The (unsharpenable) julienne blades are extremely sharp. It can't do waffle cuts and is not good for massive quantities of large cuts. It's best for finer julienne and thin slicing such as potatoes, cucumber or daikon.
Don't even consider using these machines without the safety gadget.
Unless I have a large quantity of slicing to do, I'd opt for a sharp knife, because cleanup time counts too.

(More customer reviews)I really think Hoffritz is missing the boat by not selling this slicer in an infomercial. This is one kitchen gadget that really works. One feature that sets it apart is the stainless steel bowl that the slicer portion sits on. It is high quality and nearly worth the price of the slicer by itself. The rubber feet on the bottom of the bowl are effective in their designed use to prevent the bowl from wandering on the countertop as one uses the slicer on top of it. A feature that the Amazon description did not mention is the rack which holds all the blades, protecting both one's fingers and the blades. I get perfectly uniform slices of carrots and zuchini and potatoes with ease and the food holder even rides on a pair of rails on top so it can not slip off. A surprising aspect of using this slicer is that it actually makes food go further because once you see the pile of slices you can get from , for example, just one carrot , you may decide you don't want to use two. If you do slice more than you need which is easy to do because it is almost fun, the handy plastic cover snaps onto the bowl and will protect the contents well in the fridge. Hoffritz has been reknowned for fine quality blades for many years and the slicer is blessed with durable and sharp ones. Most of all this thing just oozes quality and is very satisfying and efficient to use. Factor in the time savings and how easy it is to clean , just a quick rinse usually does it although the whole thing is diswasher safe and you have great addition to any kitchen.

(More customer reviews)I received this as a Christmas gift --one of the best I've ever enjoyed! It is easier, faster and less hassle than my food processor. The first day I got it I used it to slice potatoes for scalloped potatoes and oh my gosh how easy. I find I grab it and go to much more than my electric gadgets (and I admit, I love gadgets...) It's a necessity for what I need lots of--onions (is there a good recipe that does not include onions???) peppers, tomatoes, apples, fennel, etc....it's a wonder on hard fruits and veggies. The clean up is quick, the hand-guard/pusher is easy and actually works, (I've even used this thing with celery!) and the attachments fit and store very well in the rack that's included. (And very safely)
My only complaint is that the plastic seems to stain with carrot or tomato. In the big scheme of things....no biggie.

(More customer reviews)We have a big, heavy, clumsy, scary mandolin which I never use. I ordered this one in hopes it would be better. It is!! The fact that it's adjustable without having to have separate pieces is awesome! Just a quick slide of the switch and the size of the opening changes, and then slides closed, so the blade is not exposed when not in use. I keep it hanging on the inside of my cabinet and it's always ready, no looking for attachments. I set it right over a bowl and go. I recently used it to make pickles from a leftover seedless cucumber. I saved the pickle juice from a finished jar & added the thin cue slices. Great pickles! I love this slicer !!!

Progressive International HG-85 6-Piece Grater Set Review

(More customer reviews)First, I'll tell you that I've only used this product once so far. It was yesterday. I used the slicer plate to prepare onions and peppers for a stir fry. It did what it was supposed to do fairly well. The blade wasn't as sharp as I'd have liked and I think that impacted the performance a bit.
My biggest gripe with this item is that it isn't as big as the pictures make it out to be. The grating surface is actually quite narrow. So you won't be able to get large chunks of cheese or whole veggies on there unless you cut them up first.
Now onto the good: I like how you can store this thing. All the plates fit inside it nicely. When assembling, you can't put it together wrong because everything only fits together one way. Clean up after use was a snap. I didn't even have to toss it in the dish washer. Just a good rinse with some hot water and it looked like new again.
If you need some light grating, this isn't a bad way to go. It was just disappointing to get a smaller than expected product.

Börner Thin Julienne Vegetable Shredder Review

The safety grip shown in the illustration does NOT come with the shredder and must be purchased separately. Nor is there any other finger grip. The shredder does NOT have non-slip feet. I was not happy about these discrepancies. It does cut a nice julienne. I kept it, but it is dangerous to use without some sort of hand grip. So I ended up paying an extra $7 for the hand grip. Not happy, not pleased with this brand, and will replace this product as soon as Kuhn Rikon comes out with something comparable.

I have tried to contact Kitchen-Aid for over a month, wrote 4 EM via the KitchenAid customer support Website, and beside their promise to answer within 3 business day, I have yet to hear from them.
I'm truly disappointed with their customer support and the RSVA.

What a deception!
Probably the worst shredder I ever used.
I purchase this product in the idea that KitchenAid was a good brand (by experience), but I must admit that I have the feeling that I paid $50 for a very, very poor shredder, which should be sold $15 maximum. A $7 Walmart hand shredder makes a better job.
I have the feeling that KitchenAid just ripped me off.
I'm a mechanical engineer and I love to cook, and I'm normally the type to buy one excellent knife instead of 2 poor ones, but this time, I was fooled.
So , let's review the product:
First of all, the cones are not stainless steel, but regular steel, badly chromed.
It means that, one day or another, they will rust.
How can you tell? Use a magnet, if it is not sticking, it's a 18/10 stainless steel. (18% Chrome + 10% Nickel, a TRUE Stainless Steel)
Try with your kitchenaid mixing bowl, and you'll see.
It also means that if you ever try to sharpen the slicing blades, you'll take off the chrome and it WILL rust very quickly.
I'm sorry, but a brand like Kitchenaid should AT LEAST, provides Stainless Steel cones. Especially at 50 bucks a piece. (and I suppose that's why it is stated HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY), not allowed to use regular steel in a restaurant)
The blades are either dull, unevenly sharpened, or not at all(sides). It mashes or puree very well, but the cuts are uneven and messy. I just wanted a slicer, not a musher.
The sharpening on (my) slicing cones is visibly uneven. one side slices, the other not.
The gap between the cones and the body is too big, food goes in, get pushed in by the dull cones to end up in a mess.
The cones rotate unevenly, off balance, which adds to the previous mess.
The length of the blades is smaller than the size of the spout. (the cutting length should be a least the size of the spout, not smaller )
In short: everything that goes is those corners is miserably mashed So, as a result, in my opinion: buy something else.
Add $20 and buy yourself something decent. Plus, the attachment is so bulky that a food processor will not take much space.
My grade on a 10 scale: 3
Probably the worst shredder I ever used.
And if you ever decide to buy one , please contact me , for $25, you'll have an almost brand new one.

This week, I used this product to prepare the following:
Sun: Pizza toppings (olives, mushrooms, peppers, onions)
Mon: Soup (celery, onions, carrots)
Tue: Salsa (tomatoes, onions, peppers)
Tue: Spanish rice ( onions, celery, peppers, tomatoes)
Wed: Pad thai (broccoli, peppers, onions)
Thur: Stuffed peppers (onions, zucchini, peppers, mushrooms)
Everyday: Salad (apples, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, hardboiled egg)
Fri: Apple cake (apples)
Sat: Oatmeal (apples)
The chopper is a little more work to clean than a knife, but MUCH faster and still easy to clean with the included cleaning comb. (don't lose it) Cleaning is little more than rinsing usually. I run it through the dishwasher every few days.
If you don't need to prep a lot of ingredients like I listed or you don't really care if your items are minced/ diced/ sliced into identical shapes, then you don't need this. However, if you do a lot of chopping/ mincing/ slicing and you like it when your finished pieces are all identical (I do!), then this chopper can not be beat. It is very durable but requires a fairly strong push. My children can't push through the same items that I can, but if I take out half the items, then they too enjoy seeing the neatly chopped pieces. Kitchen King Pro Complete Food Preparation Station Review

(More customer reviews)Over the years, I have tried several versions of this type of product ( they seem to come around every few years) and I am very pleased with the Kitchen King Pro model.
Two innovations here:
Suction cup base keeps the unit in place - MUCH better then holding one side of the unit, and an alternate orientation of the "arm" you use to spin the blades-- much , MUCH easier to use, in my opinion.
The Pro unit has a tri-blade system, which may be an upgrade to the duo-blade system on older units.
This one also has a "Julienne" and "Mandolin" inserts, making this an outsrtanding value. You also get a salad spinner insert and a whippiping/mixing attachment.
The build quality is better than most, and the bowl is larger than other models. Storage lid too! UNLIKE lesser units, the bowl does not crack, nor get a "white haze look" after you use it frequently.
This unit is handy for everyone, but ideal for singles, college age , or seniors- the ease of use compared to electric really make you use it! FANTASTIC for salsa, tuna or chicken salad, and sensational for super-fast cole slaw. Honestly, it takes only seconds to prepare most things, and under a minute to clean.
This one has had a life as an infomercial product, and continues to be promoted on a leading television shopping network. Really a nice product, worth your consideration.
I became aware of this model when working on lacation for a TV show - the catering people had several, and used them daily.

(More customer reviews)For the money this is not a bad spiral slicer considering some list for over 100 dollars. The real sticking point is the fixed forward axle for whatever you are slicing. It consists of a round hollow cutting edge with an approximate 3/8 opening. This simply means whatever you are slicing will lose a 3/8 cylinder from its center. This is accepatable with Cucumbers and Zuchini but does not leave much when slicing Carrots, Raddishes or any other small diameter veggies.
I would not recommend this if you intend to use it for these smaller veggies but for potatoes, Apples and the like it is OK.

Offers a good variety of slice thicknesses, plus juliennes; changeout is quick and easy. Storage box is a definite plus. Excellent value for the price. The best part? The blade is really sharp. The worst part? Yeah, the blade is really, really sharp. I find the holder is too awkward to use and actually sliced myself once in the first week because it went so much faster than I expected. Best way to get a stir fry or fajitas done and on the table in top speed, though.

This is by far the easiest & most used kitchen gadget appliance in my house. Slicing & shredding couldn't be easier. The pieces pop into the dishwasher. No difficult instuctions, a no brainer. Until it arrives...I need to drag out my food processor to make some zucchini/carrot bread. I hate that dinosaur...plus I find the contraption scarey!!! I may have to rush that delivery!! (More customer reviews)I owned one of the first HB Big Mouths ... it came time to get another ( I cracked the bowl ) This version is wonderful all the blades store inside , the chopping blade is lower and can chop smaller amounts . The power is amazing. The suction cups on the bottom hold it in place but don't require a weight lifting belt to get it free from the counter , like the first version did. I gave away my new KitchenAid in favor of this product , the KitchenAid was damaged in one light use. I have a large family 7 kids , 2 parents , 2 employees and this Big Mouth can handle what ever I through at it.
I highly recommend this product.

(More customer reviews)We laughed and laughed when we received this "as seen on TV" slicing and, well, grating "miracle product" as a gift. Who would actually use such a crazy thing? Well, it turns out that we would, frequently. It may not dice, but it does slice beautifully - thin and uniform, as well as grating everything from cheese to potatoes to carrots to ... you name it. We use it almost daily. If you're a vegetable eater or a cheese lover, you won't know how you lived without it. Easy to assemble and disassemble, and it's dishwasher safe, although you do have to position the parts correctly to maximize water flow and cleaning. You can do a fine or a coarse grate, a straight or a wavy slice. You can even get an ice shaver for making snow cones. It does have some limitations. While it grates all kinds of cheeses (softer cheeses work best when chilled), it can't slice cheese at all. Nor does it slice onions, celery or other "stringy" vegetables well. It will grate them, though. It slices cucumbers, carrots, summer squash and similar vegetables beautifully, but the chute is too narrow to slice most cukes or zukes whole -- you'll have to split them lengthwise.

It will run again AFTER SITTING TO COOL OVERNIGHT. Mine overheated after about a minute pulsing pre softened ice cream. Seriously.
The juicer does not do the job, it doesn't even come close to extracting all the juice from tomatoes or cooked elderberries which should not be much of a challenge. The pulp cup is tiny and fills quickly with juice laden pulp. I put the tomatoes through the Bullet three times before setting up my other juicer and still got juice from the "pulp" when I put it through that.The pieces do not fit tightly together which allows some of what little juice it does extract to spray in a pretty fan pattern across the front of whatever shirt you are wearing, including the sleeves so don't bother with an apron.
The processer itself does chop stuff up but the pieces are not uniform and they fly all over the place when they come out of the Bullet rather than falling nicely into a bowl. If you have a helper they could hold the bowl and tip it up to catch the pieces. I tried raising the bowl up as high as I could but still had food pieces all over. And the feed chute is so small (especially in relation to the size of the cutting bowl)that by the time you've cut the food small enough to feed it through with just a few more cuts you could have the job done without all the set up and clean up hassle.
This product has as many pieces as the processors they claim it is superior to, and these pieces are cumbersome to handle and take a ton of room to store.The way you have to grab the blade to remove it for cleaning is of some concern although I was very very careful and never got cut. There are also small tabs on the plastic attachments that seem like they might not hold up to mush use. However, that isn't a problem for me because mine sits in a box in the basement. I wish I'd kept my old 1970's processer!
The company is completely unresponsive, so if you think you still want to try this product pay careful attention to that 30 day guarantee and be prepared to pay for the shipping to get it to you and return it which adds up to over [...]. I'd sell mine but that would be irresponsible. Read other reviews.

(More customer reviews)My family has owned Cuisinart Food Processors for over 25 years! We have NEVER had any problems with any of the models. I purchased a second one for my mother when she retired. There was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with her original Cuisinart Food Processor (about 20 years old); however, I wanted her to have a new one.
And, if you need a replacement part (due to the darn thing just giving out), there is a website that offers all of the parts you could possibly need. We have only had to order from them once, and that was because the part finally gave out!
This Cuisinart and another of a different colour were recently purchased for two of my nieces. Just about every household in our family has , at least, one Cuisinart Food Processor! You pay for what you get!
