Put my decaf coffee and 1% milk in the microwave and froth it with this stick-like device and in 10 seconds it froths. Have used it to whip baked potatoes into creamy mashed. Am always thinking I'm over-taxing its little motor, but no, I start it up and its still working.

Braun MR430HC Multiquick Deluxe Hand Blender & Chopper Review

(More customer reviews)Here's an instance of bad luck turned good; we moved and of course, the box of kitchen stuff failed to turn up and my older model Braun hand blender was gone. I had to purchase a new one, so I got another Braun because I loved my old one.
Well, this is certainly an improved model over the one I bought 10 years ago. IMMENSELY improved, and I love it so much I am, well, looking for things to beat up. Like pureed vegetable soups, frozen yogurt mix for the freezer, you name it.
Here's what has been made so much better:
1. The attachments that used to come with the Braun were run by the actual cutting blade. With this model, you can remove the blade portion of the stalk and screw the motor shaft onto the mini-chopper or whisk. I just love that!! The older chopper was hard to use because you had to hold it carefully in the socket designed for the blade to run the shaft. That's not a problem here --now the shaft of the blades are directly connected to the motor. A huge improvement.
2. The removable stalk means you can thoroughly clean the blade portion without worrying about submersing the motor part (a no-no for any electrical appliance.)
3. Because the motor is able to be detached from the blades, it is now more powerful--before, the motor seemed "dumbed down" to be able to run the mini-chopper. This new model motor kicks serious batter. In fact, it is so strong, make SURE YOU HAVE IT SUBMERGED in the puree before you run it or you will be spewing gazpacho all over your white kitchen. (I made gazpacho. I have a white kitchen. I know whereof I speak.)
4. The price, for this gem, is incredible. You get a whisk, a mini-chopper, the blender and a mixing beaker and a hanger for the wall if you want to mount it.
5. The one bad point: the motor is VERY strong, so if you have muscular weakness, carpal tunnel syndrome, or some kind of disability that challenges your hand control, I would recommend the variable speed model which goes from slow to fast. It is more money, but if you are physically challenged, it will prevent you from splashing hot soup as you puree it in the pot.
Otherwise, I can't recommend this enough. It is the most-used item I have in my kitchen.

Also, it does not work as a mini food processor/chopper at all, because of the way the cup is set up. Only as a not very efficient chopper. The description on the Amazon site is insufficient, as is the documentation that comes with the item. Do not waste your money. I had to give it one star to get my review accepted, but it doesn't deserve any.

(More customer reviews)Great so far! I make Hot Pepper sauce every year and needed something with enough power to be able to grind up the pepper skins and make the sauce very smooth. Even my Cuisinart food processor has trouble with this task, plus it would leak hot sauce everywhere. Just got this and tried it on 2 different tasks. 1) I made a blended ice drink that was so thick it wouldn't pour! 2) I used it to grind some of my leftover pepper skins and vinegar. It worked very well but didn't grind up the seeds. Probably asking for too much there. Seems like it really has 550 watts.
I was nervous about buying a brand with no reviews, however I checked out their website and they have a 15 month warranty and their other products got good reviews. All the labels on it are in spanish with a small user guide in english. I compared it to the $100 Kitchenaid and I like this one better, especially at only $40. All the components seem well made and are stainless steel.

After owning a few cheaper units, I sprang for the Braun Hand Blender/Chopper and am very pleased with my choice. While I have mainly used mine for its easy blending-in-the-pot capabilities, I admit the chopper has equal merits, especially when you only need to chop a small quantity of ingredients.
I love being able to immerse the blade right in my soup pot to blend or puree soups and sauces without the mess of getting out my food processor or countertop blender. The blade does a quick job of pureeing and wash-up is a dream. I can't imagine cooking without this handy device.
Highly recommended.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this food processor for myself only about two weeks ago, so I can't say yet as to how long it lasts. I wanted to point out a few problems with it though. First off I really despise the locking lid 'safety feature'! I find it difficult to position the bowl and lid correctly and get it to lock and I usually have to try this several times to get it right. (The unit will not power on until the lid is locked correctly) In fact, the first day that I had this I thought that it was broken and I almost returned it! I am also not pleased with the shredding blade. My main purpose of this processor was to shred potatoes so that I don't have to use a hand grater or purchase the frozen pre-shredded ones. The shredding blade on this is very small and makes the potatoes come out more like spaghetti noodles. I would love to purchase a different size blade but Black and Decker does not make one. I am going to shop other food processors with better shredding capabilities and when I find one that suits me I am going to replace this one. I hope that this review will help others who are looking for a good shredding food processor.

(More customer reviews)I considered this an optional kitchen item, but I hate having to make sauce or soup by dipping it out of the pot a little at a time into the blender, then pouring it into another bowl--tedious and time-consuming. I was doubtful that something like this would do the job, but decided to give it a try. What fun! A simple on and off switch, an easily detachable and washable blade housing, and unlike most appliances these days, it comes with a long cord. And it's plenty powerful for my purposes. Besides the fact that it blends leek and potato soup into a beautiful cream quickly, it also makes homemade mayonnaise in less than a minute, including the time it takes to gather the ingredients. That was my first attempt ever at mayonnaise, and it was easy, which was amazing. (Recipe using Egg Beaters, lemon juice and oil comes with it--just dump in all together and blend). I think it would be a little easier in another small bowl, rather than the one that came with the blender, however, as I ended up overblending it in that one. The one caveat I have is that, if one attempts to make bean soup, one should make sure all the big chunks of ham are taken out of the pot beforehand. There was this big THUNK, you see, and after cleaning bean juice off my stove, walls, floor, refrigerator, clothes, face and hair, I learned my lesson.

Breville BCS500XL 9.6 Volt Cordless Immersion Blender with Recharging Base Review

I have been using a Braun corded immersion blender for over a year and it is far more powerful and cost $30 when I bought it new last year. Bought this Breville for the cordless convenience, but it stalls out often, even on full charge. The built in rechargeable batteries are only replaceable by sending it back to the manufacturer, and the cordless unit is much heavier than a corded unit so this probably won't be cheap when the time comes. As mentioned in other reviews, the power and speed switches are inconvenient and would probably not be recommended for anyone with arthritis or anyone lacking in manual dexterity. The "smoothie" attachment is made of cheap plastic, including the "blade" so if you like your smoothies with frozen fruit or ice, forget about using this attachment. For ice crushing you must use another attachment, but if you are a bodybuilder trying make a drink by mixing protein powders, supplement powders and ice cubes, you better get one of the many other immersions blenders on the market that sell for a third of the price, because this Breville just isn't powerful enough to do it without stalling unless you add more liquid than you probably care to drink. The cordless feature is nice, and for that it gets a star. It gets another for looking adequately attractive and for coming with all the attachments mentioned in the manual (i.e., nothing extra to buy). If you don't need the cordless feature, you might want to save your money and buy a more powerful, versatile version of this product for a fraction of the price.

(More customer reviews)I love handblenders. I have this one and its attachments, and I use it pretty regularly. I have two complaints: 1) the powercord is thick, cumbersome, and hard to keep out of one's way. I had a cordless unit from a different manufacturer before, and I must say--the extra power here is nice, but I'm not 100% convinced the hassle of the cord is really worth that extra umph very often. 2) and here's the kicker--there's no actual "on" switch. You've got to hold it on the whole time. I really wanted to give one to my mom for Xmas, but she simply doesn't have the hand-strength any longer to make use of this unit. It takes me two hands to keep it held "on," and my hands cramp up when I've got something that I need to blend for a sustained amount of time. That said, this is a lovely unit (I adore the red color), and I get lots of use out of it. I just would have liked a chance to think about those two issues before I bought it (about a year ago), and certainly before I gave it for a gift.

(More customer reviews)I bought a cuisine art hand blender instead of this one at the store because the cuisine art blender has a bigger blade. Turns out that is not very helpful, it leaves out small pieces of fruit. The cuisine art blender has the blades much higher from the base of the vessel so chunks that fit between the blade and the base don't get blended or you have to blend for few more minutes to make it a fine paste. I like to blend in the bowl I will serve in, that way I won't have more dishes. If I put milk or water with the fruit to make sure I don't have chunks, it gets a little messy.
With the sharper image blender I didn't have any issues with the blend being chunky, it does a great job fast. It is not easy to blend something like apples or carrots but the cuisine art didn't do any better with those either. At least sharper image blender struggles first but after a minute it will blend it into a fine paste, with cuisine art it takes a lot longer to get to that consistency. If you want your puree fine and fast this is the right one for you.
It also comes with lot of extra attachments. Usually Amazon has everything priced competitively but this one Amazon has it priced at 39.99. The store I bought it in has it for 29.99 and with the 20% off coupon I got it for $24. I love it and I am glad I decided to try it.

(More customer reviews)I have been a breadmaker my entire life. There is nothing like the smell of baking bread as you walk in the door, especially on a cold winter day. The evolution of the bread machine was exciting for me. I remember the first bread machines with the tall, horizontal loaf pan that was somewhat less than exciting. Then, the "horizontal" loaf appeared. I own two of the first Breadman machines, TR845 with the horizonal loaf and as a "basic breadmaker" those are terrific. They are sturdy, relatively quiet for a breadmaker and the pan secures itself well within the machine. This model does not have all the cycles of more current models and it does not automatically add ingredients as do the TR2500, or Tr2700. However, it does offer a signal "beep" when to add ingredients such as raisons, or cranberries. I love to bake bread and give it away. I often have four breadmakers going at the same time during a holiday.
Last year I purchased the Breadman TR2500, Stainless and Black. Initially I was quite pleased with the performance. However, after several uses I did have problems with the bread pan releasing from the holders on each side requiring a bending and adjusting of the snap in prongs of both the pan and the breadmaker itself. I think this is because the stainless steel on the inside isn't quite as strong as with simple steel of the past models I have used. I LOVE THE COVECTION FEATURE. The first thing I noticed about adding convection to a breadmaker was the crust. The entire crust of the bread, not only the top is VERY CRISPY. For those of you who love to cut off the heel of a fresh loaf of bread and smear with butter, this is a dream (of course the heel is still the best part of the loaf). Now, I just aquired the newer model which is a TR2700. I have not had the problem with the pan coming loose from the holders in the machine as of yet and the inside is similar in construction to the TR2500? Both the TR2500 and the TR2700 make quite a bit more noise during the kneeding cycles which I think is due to the stainless steel construction vs. steel and plastic which I don't think conduct noise as well. Still, the TR2700 is still top notch and well worth the money if you love to make bread and would use it frequently. ONE TIP ON ALL BREADMACHINES. If you find that hole in the bottom of the bread annoying, or displeasing simply keep track of your cycle. After the machine has completed the second kneed going in to the last rise, simply reach in and take off the paddle. End result is a nice loaf with only a small hole from the hub of the paddle. Nice little trick and you won't ever mistakingly give a loaf away with the paddle stuck in it. OOPS, where's my bread paddle?, the next time you try making bread.

(More customer reviews)The blender feature of this is excellent (5 stars)... it does not splash what you are mixing out onto the counter. It is also quiet and the two speeds are great.
The down sides are:
1). It does an extremely poor job (one star) of whipping small quantities of whipping cream. Models with a separate 'whip' attachment are better suited for whipping small quantities of cream. The enclosed recipe calls for a cup, and under a cup just won't work, so technically it does exactly what it says it will. Other models with a separate whip can whip < 1/4 cup of cream easily.
2). This is one-piece tool and cannot be put in the dishwasher.

"Works fine. When you had a Braun previously, as I did, some of the parts don't stick together as easily as you are used to. Works fine though, and has a stronger engine than the Braun did. For pure functionality it deserves 4 stars."
Based on this I gave the Miallegro 3 Stars.
Now we are 10 weeks later and 2 knobs that hold the motor part and the attachments together have come off. Not good, obviously. Am now about to call customer service to get the product replaced and will update on how that goes.
But the fact that this has happened at all, shows this isn't a very well engineered product unfortuntely...
Consider yourself warned.

(More customer reviews)June 25, 2004: I have had a Braun handblender for many years (10 years?), and was pleased with its performance, until it finally lost its spunk last week. I bought this product yesterday as a replacement, and I must say I am very pleasantly surprised! This was a HUGE step up! I would even say that this is a professional quality gadget! (It is certainly styled to look the part!)
My favorite thing to make with my handblender is hummus - a mediterranean chick pea dip - and last night I made some the smooooothest hummus I ever made! This is in part because of the 9 speeds available on this model. I started out with lower speeds and then worked my way up to the top one. This is a large handblender, but it was comfortable and easy to use - lightweight even, and sure has a LOT of power. As with most of these products, it was a little difficult to clean the blades, but not a problem. (Really, the best way to clean it is to "blend" a cup of soapy water!)
There other models of this that come with attachments - that might be nice in the future, if I want to whip or chop using the attachments - but this basic model with the blender and the cup are all I need for most anything, and worth the price tag for the POWER you get from this brand! It's true what they say - KitchenAid ROCKS!
UPDATE: yikes! I was blending bread into breadcrumbs (not toasted, silly me) and it got doughy and really thick and blew the fuse. If anyone knows how to fix that, please comment. I stand by my earlier glowing review - this incident was my fault!

(More customer reviews)I got one of these as a gift recently. I have since used it as an excuse to blend EVERYTHING! I have made several batches of soups and gravy's with this, including lentil and potato soup. its quiet, surprisingly light, and absolutely effective. I haven't tried blending anything frozen with it, yet. The metal shaft makes for super easy clean up. the thing seems really durable.
Generally I'm a Kitchenaid groupy, however their comparable stick has crappy reviews, and parts problems. Cuisinart does make a lot of really quality machines, and since its a a good brand you can buy replacement blades and such for it. I never buy anything I cant buy replacement parts for, due to extreme blend a thons those blades wont last forever, but you hope the motors will! I love it so much I'm buying one for my mother!

(More customer reviews)As you can see from others' reviews (esp. on other smartstick models), this product apparently was built with a few plastic parts (instead of metal) that break down after just a bit of use. Then it starts making a horrible grinding noise.
I called Cuisinart, and their in-warranty replacement requires that I pay *THEIR* shipping of the replacement ($10), and also pay to ship the product back to them (probably another $10). Oddly, other people posting reviews here are not being charged.
I called back to ask why some people are having shipping waived, and others aren't. It sounds like they're using a combination of location (e.g. California, which has better customer protection laws) and date of purchase (e.g. if it's less than 6 months old, they're more likely to waive outbound shipping charge.)
IF YOU'RE CONSIDERING THIS PRODUCT: Be aware that the glowingly positive reviews appear to be from people who've just bought the product and haven't hit build quality issues yet.
January 4th 2010 update: The replacement product lasted only 6 months. Same defect. Throwing it out and buying a competitor's product. Never trusting the Cuisinart brand again.
