Slap Chop Review

Slap Chop
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased two of these to give as gifts this past holiday season. One of which went to my husband, my in-house chef, who seems to be constantly chopping celery or onions for various dishes. I'd seen the ads on TV for it and loved the simplicity of the device. I have an electric chopper, but thought the Slap Chop looked a bit more compact and would travel well for camping trips.
Out of the box I noticed that the plastic used in the device is fairly flimsy. The blades too are very thin. The entire product does not seem to be designed with durability in mind, and if used gingerly, it would probably stand up to a year or two of weekly, light use at most.
To test the product I tried a hard boiled egg first. The egg got stuck in the blades and really didn't get chopped as much as 'mushed'.
The next test was an onion. You have to start with a fairly small piece and yes, 'slap' the top which propels the chopping blades down in a plunger-type action to the cutting board below. It cut the onions, I then twisted the device to get another angle on the onions and did it again. The Slap Chop worked OK for onions.
Tomatoes were next. Starting with a quarter of a tomato, the Slap Chop did its thing. The harder and faster I slapped the blades down, the better the cut. Still, it seemed like a knife would work just as well and be just as fast considering set-up and clean-up times too.
Clean-up was easy, which is perhaps the Slap Chop's best feature. Not much more difficult than running your knife under the water.
The bottom line: a flimsy kitchen tool that won't replace a good knife. Not the amazing time-saving device I'd hoped for and not something I would recommend to my friends. It could be something for the picnic basket, camping or hiking gear kitchen, but durability is likely to be an issue.

KitchenAid Food Chopper - White Review

KitchenAid Food Chopper - White
Average Reviews:

We requested this "food chopper" in our wedding registry and really regret it. The chopping surface is only about two inches wide, which translates to not very much food. That is, if you could it to chop anything. About the only vegetable that doesn't jam it or get mushed into a pulp is mushrooms, and those still jam it most of the time. The blades aren't sharp enough to cut anything, except your fingers when you are trying to figure out how to wash it. Basically, you have to pre-chop your food to put it in this thing to get it chopped. Skip it--buy a nice knife and cutting board instead.

Nesco FD-75PR 700-Watt Food Dehydrator Review

Nesco FD-75PR 700-Watt Food Dehydrator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had been researching dehydrators for months and finally decided on this one. I am happy I did. I have dried veggies, fruits, made jerky and fruit leathers so far. It is easy to use, has great recipes and works well. It is nice to be able to give the kids snacks that are not full of sugars and things no one can pronounce. I only wish it had a timer. I will probably use a regular timer and plug it into that.
Pros: *fan not in bottom of unit - allows for more uniform drying
*temperature control
*size - fits nicely on a kitchen counter
*availability of accessories
*ease of use
Cons: *no timer
*no on/off switch - you have to unplug the unit to turn it off

Dry fruit, vegetables, and jerky in hours instead of days with this 700-watt food dehydrator. The unit's patented Converga-Flow drying system forces air down the exterior pressurized chamber, then horizontally across each individual tray, converging in the center, for fast, even, and nutritious drying. Flavors don't mix, and there's no need to rotate the trays. Its top-mounted fan eliminates the worry of liquids dripping into the heater chamber, and an opaque Vita-Save exterior helps block harmful lights in order to retain more of the food's nutrients and vitamins during the drying process. The unit's adjustable thermostat ranges from 95 to 160 degrees F, providing the flexibility needed to ensure excellent results. Five trays come included, but the unit can be expanded to up to 12 trays (additional trays sold separately) for drying larger quantities at one time. Accessories include two fruit roll sheets, perfect for drying semi-liquids like soups, sauces, and fruit rolls; two Clean-A-Screen flexible screens, which allow for easy drying of small items such as herbs, spices, and potpourri; and three original jerky spice packets for making jerky. A 52-page recipe and instruction book also comes included. With a sleek, contemporary design, the food dehydrator measures approximately 13 by 13 by 10 inches. From the Manufacturer

KitchenAid KPFP850PM Pro Line Food Processor, Pearl Metallic Review

KitchenAid KPFP850PM Pro Line Food Processor, Pearl Metallic
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I used to own the KFP670WH which was rated #1 by Consumer Reports and was great but unfortunately now discontinued!
I recently had to buy another food processor and saw KitchenAid had the "Tim Taylor" version of my previous model. I am quite disappointed with it and don't think it is worth the $450 I paid.
It is massive! Eats up counter space.
The shredder disk only comes in a 4mm version which I don't like for grating carrots or other similar vegetables. It is too coarse. They also didn't include reversible disks so you could increase your shredding options as you can with its smaller counterpart model.
When using the chef's bowl and the shredding disk, the outer bowl gets dirty on the rim so you still have to wash it. When grating carrots this is not good! Carrots stain the plastic so you end up washing two bowls.
Large pieces of carrots get lodged between the disk and the cover so you have to open the cover and remove the food.
I haven't used it extensively but I have contacted Kitchenaid and expressed my dissatisfaction.
Bigger is not always better

Bullet Express Meal Maker Trio Standard Mixer Food Processor and Juicer in one Amazing Machine

I fell victim to the infomercials and actually did something I NEVER do: I bought the Bullet Express from an infomercial. I couldn't wait for it to arrive, and bought lots of fruits and veggies to try in it. I carefully unpacked and washed all the parts, and familiarized myself with the directions for use. Then on the very first us, it BROKE! The cheapo piece of plastic in the shredder blade cooked, and disintigrated. When I called to arrange a refund, I was told that they do not refund the bogusly overinflated shipping and handling fees. And when I loudly complained about having to pay for nothing, they magnanimously offered to send a pre-paid return label. I tried calling again to talk with a supervisor about refunding the S&H fee, and was again denied. I can't believe that I shelled out $29.99 and have nothing to show for it, but high blood pressure and feeling like a fool for being victimized by a crummy company that makes it's money on bogus shipping and handling, in exchange for sending you useless crap in the mail.

This is an excellent food processor. It has two speeds, plus pulse control so it allows for better precision when chopping. Some processors turn everything to puree, but with this one you have better control over how finely things are chopped. The grater/slicer disk produces very uniform pieces and is really fast! While running it's not too loud either. I highly recommend this processor, especially considering the reasonable price.

Black & Decker Quick 'N Easy Plus Food Processor Review

Black and Decker Quick 'N Easy Plus Food Processor
Average Reviews:

First of all- sorry Amazon- but $42 is out of line for this product.
I know because I bought one yesterday locally.
I am taking it back today. I haven't even used it yet, but 2 of the design features really turned me off.
That food chute thing makes the lid very bulky and cumbersome and it is not removable.
You have to insert a little piece of plastic which acts as a "dam" to prevent the food from coming out the chute.
If you do use it- the opening where the sliced/shredded food exits is very narrow and prone to clogging. It even says it right in the manual.
So, if it clogs badly, there is a little piece of plastic that you have to *unscrew* to get off so you can clean it properly.
Excuse me- unscrew?
This is plastic. How many times do you think you will be able to do this before the plastic breaks?
One should never have to unscrew anything on an appliance to be able to take it apart for cleaning.
I guess you could use a bottle brush or something to clean it without unscrewing the plastic plate, but I just want to be able to throw it in the dishwasher, not stand there at the sink fiddling with it.
This device is more trouble than it's worth. I hate the food chute and will probably never use it.
And having to unscrew a part- what were they thinking?

KitchenAid KFP710WH 7-Cup Food Processor, White Review

KitchenAid KFP710WH 7-Cup Food Processor, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a very nice food processor. I bought it based on reviews of the more expensive models, and found it to be very good product. It has a very strong yet quiet motor that seems to handle jobs with ease. The 7 cup size is good for most typical food processing I do for my family of three. I can easily shred a full pound of cheese in the 7 cup bowl.
I was impressed with this product especially after seeing a new Black and Decker food processor that sounded like it was grinding rocks even with an empty bowl. This kitchen aid model appears to be very well built. It is definitely worth the $80.
The food processor comes with the base, 7 cup bowl, chopping blade, shredding/slicing blade, a "pole" for the shredding blade, and a spatula to help clean out the bowl.
Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase.

Waring Pro FS150 Food Slicer Review

Waring Pro FS150 Food Slicer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This thing slices well, then comes the impractical task of trying to clean it. The tray does not detatch from the base, which cannot be put in water because it containes the motor. Pieces of food work their way into the motor area. After removing the blade (using tools) you must remove a plastic cover with 3 screws and dig out the pieces of food. I could not believe how bad a design it was from a cleaning standpoint. The tray that slides back and forth with the food has a stainless top that is literally two-faced taped onto the plastic base. This was very poor from a quality standpoint, and came off in my hand the first and only time used. The plastic base for this tray has about fifty little half inch square honey-comb sort of areas that grease from meat or juices from food WILL get down into. This thing is a nightmare to adequately clean and not worth the trouble. It went back to the store immediately, and it was not all the way clean because after about thirty minutes I gave up. I'm looking for another brand now.

KitchenAid Food Processors - (9 Cup) Review

KitchenAid Food Processors - (9 Cup)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Boy, am I glad I bought this processor. It is well designed and well made. You definitely get what you pay for.
The base unit is big (10" x 8" x 6" high) and heavy. But it is amazingly quiet. It has large rubber feet which prevent the unit from moving or vibrating on the counter. The motor has enough torque to mix or rip through anything dropped in it.
The work bowl is wider than the previous 9 cup model (7") which makes it very easy to work inside and remove the contents. Another nice touch is the bowl cover which fits over both the inside and outside rim of the work bowl to prevent spillage. The large food pusher is also a measuring cup. Many of the 12 cup accessories fit this processor, too.
The mini bowl accessory is useful because it easily drops into the large work bowl and then quickly chops small amounts of ingredients. The processor comes with the mini bowl & blade, dough blade, 2 mm slicing disk, 4 mm shredding disk and spatula. The booklet has 18 pages of well illustrated instructions (all English) and another 22 pages of recipes.
Final note: This item is securely packed in styrofoam. In addition, KitchenAid encloses the box inside a slightly larger shipping carton. This prevents the product and its box from being damaged during shipment from Amazon's warehouse - another nice touch.

With its powerful 1/2-horsepower motor, this convenient food processor quickly and easily slices, dices, chops, and purees, helping to reduce prep time in the kitchen. The food processor features a large 9-cup-capacity work bowl, premium-quality multipurpose stainless-steel blade, and a large feed tube and pusher for continuous processing.
The food processor also comes with a 4-cup mini bowl with a mini multipurpose blade, which transforms the food processor into a mini chopper, perfect for smaller tasks like chopping herbs, nuts, and onions, mincing garlic, or making baby food. I purchased the processor and blades at the same time. I had called in advance and was told no blades came with the processor. However, three excellent blades and a nifty storage box do come with the processor, so the extra $70.00 for these 5 seemed rather unneccesary. They will allow more functionality than the standard 3 discs enclosed with the processor, but for us, these five would have been 'over-kill'.
